John Williams Scores ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ As Rumors Suggest First Footage Soon To Be Released

Despite some maneuvering in the directorial chair for “Solo: A Star Wars Story”, veteran “Star Wars: franchise composer John Williams has been set to write the theme for the standalone film about a young Han Solo. Powell was said to be the primary composer for “Solo” back in July and remains so.

However, Williams, who has produced some of the most amazing scores, revealed his involvement during an interview with Variety today about his work on ‘The Last Jedi’, saying:

“The present plan is that I’m writing a theme for Han Solo, and John Powell is going to write the score, which he’ll do brilliantly. His assignment is something I’m very happy about. What I will do is offer this to John, and to [director] Ron Howard, and if all parties are happy with it, then I will be happy. … John [Powell] will complete the score. He will write all the rest of the themes and all of the other material, which I’m going to be very anxious to hear.”

Williams has written the complete scores for all eight of the main “Star Wars” films, while spin-off “Rogue One” was scored by Michael Giacchino.

Now, when could a trailer for the standalone film come about. Cinelinx editor-in-chief Jordan Maison tweeted:

That admittedly doesn’t give us much to go on, but it does seem like an indication that the folks at Disney and Lucasfilm may finally have something to show fans that have kept up with the development of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Following that reveal of a possible Solo: A Star Wars Story reveal happening in less than a month’s time, Jordan Maison followed up his initial tweet with the reveal that two to three weeks might actually undersell how soon we will see something from the film. Maison wrote:

Reddit user Risssk (an account only one month old) shared the details in a thread titled, “Deets on Solo teaser.” The description is prefaced as being “a rundown of what l caught a glimpse of,” by the user. “There’s more obviously but this was the big stuff.”

Solo: A Star Wars Story features Hail, Caesar‘s Alden Ehrenreich as Han, with Atlanta‘s Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and The Force Awakens‘ Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. Woody Harrelson is playing Han’s mentor, a man by the name of Beckett, while Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke, Westworld‘s Thandie Newton, and Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge also star.

In the wake of the departure of directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller from the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm hired director Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code) to take their place. It is unknown how credit will be divided for the finished film, as at least 3/4s of it was already shot when Howard took over.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is coming to theaters on May 25, 2018.
